Our community thrives when everyone feels safe, respected, and prepared. The ICCD Security Committee works quietly and diligently behind the scenes to protect our congregants, volunteers, students, and visitors—so worship, learning, and service can flourish without fear or confusion.


Mission and guiding principles

  • Mission: Safeguard ICCD’s people, facilities, programs, and events through proactive planning, visible presence, and swift response.
  • Principles:
    • Dignity: Uphold Islamic values in every interaction.
    • Discretion: Protect privacy while ensuring accountability.
    • Preparedness: Plan, train, and practice before emergencies happen.
    • Partnership: Coordinate with ICCD leadership, volunteers, and local agencies.

What the security committee does

  • Prevention and preparedness:

    • Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and facility walk-throughs.
    • Maintain emergency plans for fire, medical, severe weather, and critical incidents.
    • Ensure signage, lighting, cameras, access control, and alarm systems are functional.
  • Visible presence and event coverage:

    • Staff Jumu’ah, taraweeh, Eid, school drop-off/pick-up, and major events.
    • Manage entrances, parking flow, and crowd safety with courtesy and clarity.
    • Provide escorts for vulnerable congregants when needed.
  • Incident response and reporting:

    • Coordinate calmly with staff, volunteers, and first responders.
    • Document incidents, preserve evidence, and follow ICCD protocols.
    • Conduct post-incident reviews and implement improvements.
  • Training and education:

    • Offer drills and workshops (evacuation, shelter-in-place, stop-the-bleed awareness, de-escalation).
    • Share safety tips with parents, teachers, and volunteers.
    • Certify volunteer roles for major gatherings.

Safety protocols at iccd

  • Facility security:

    • Controlled access to classrooms and offices during school hours.
    • Monitored entrances, well-marked exits, and accessible emergency equipment.
  • Event procedures:

    • Clear ingress/egress routes, designated prayer hall capacities, and backup overflow plans.
    • Radio communication among leads; defined roles for ushers, parking, and floor monitors.
  • Emergency actions:

    • Evacuation, shelter-in-place, lockdown, and medical assistance procedures posted and practiced.
    • Immediate coordination with 911 and local responders when required.

How community members can help

  • Stay alert:

    • Report suspicious behavior, hazards, or maintenance issues right away.
    • Follow ushers’ directions during crowded events or emergencies.
  • Be prepared:

    • Note exits upon arrival and keep pathways clear.
    • Keep children with you and communicate meeting points with family.
  • Respect protocols:

    • Use designated entrances; avoid propping doors open.
    • Park only in marked areas; follow traffic flow and volunteer guidance.

Volunteer opportunities

  • Roles:
    • Floor monitors, parking attendants, welcome desk support, radio communications, and logistics support.
  • Commitment:
    • Short, well-structured shifts during Jumu’ah, weekends, Ramadan, and school events.
  • Training:
    • Orientation, scenario drills, and role-specific checklists.
  • How to join:
    • Submit your interest with your availability and any relevant experience (security, medical, logistics).

Partnerships and accountability

  • Internal coordination:
    • Work closely with ICCD leadership, school administrators, and event organizers.
  • External relationships:
    • Maintain contact with local police, fire departments, and emergency management when appropriate.
  • Continuous improvement:
    • Quarterly reviews of incidents, drills, and equipment; annual plan updates and refresher trainings.

  • Immediate concerns during events:
    • Notify any usher or floor monitor; they will escalate to the security lead.
  • Emergencies:
    • Call 911 first, then inform the nearest committee member.
