How ICCD Distributes Zakat Donations

ICCD treats zakat as an amanah (sacred trust) and follows a transparent, Shari‘ah‑compliant process to ensure every dollar reaches those whom Allah ﷻ has designated in Qur’an 9:60. Our goal is to honor the intention of the giver and preserve the dignity of the recipient.

1. Zakat Is Kept Separate From All Other Funds

  • Zakat donations are not mixed with general donations, operations, or sadaqah funds.
  • All zakat contributions — including cash, checks, and Zelle transfers — are recorded and tracked independently.

2. Distribution Follows the Eight Qur’anic Categories

ICCD distributes zakat only to those who qualify under the eight categories listed in Surah At‑Tawbah (9:60), including:

  • The poor and needy
  • Those in debt
  • Stranded travelers
  • Other eligible categories as defined by Islamic law

No zakat is used for administrative expenses, building projects, or non‑eligible purposes.

3. A Confidential Review Process

To protect dignity and privacy:

  • Individuals seeking zakat assistance submit a confidential request.
  • ICCD’s zakat committee reviews each case carefully to verify eligibility.
  • Documentation is requested only when necessary, and all information is kept strictly private.

4. Priority to Local Community Needs

ICCD prioritizes:

  • Families and individuals within our local community
  • Those facing hardship, unemployment, medical bills, or emergency needs
  • Refugees, new arrivals, and vulnerable households

If local needs are met and funds remain, ICCD may support verified cases outside the immediate community through trusted partners.

5. Direct Assistance to Eligible Recipients

Zakat is distributed in ways that ensure full ownership (tamleek):

  • Direct financial assistance
  • Emergency support for rent, utilities, food, or medical needs
  • One‑time hardship relief
  • Support for eligible debt repayment

Funds are given directly to the recipient or paid on their behalf when appropriate.

6. Strict Oversight and Accountability

  • Every disbursement is documented and reviewed.
  • Only authorized zakat committee members handle distribution.
  • ICCD leadership ensures compliance with Islamic guidelines and legal standards.
  • Annual summaries may be shared with the community to maintain transparency.

7. Commitment to Integrity and Compassion

ICCD’s approach is rooted in:

  • Qur’anic guidance
  • Prophetic ethics
  • Community trust
  • Compassion and dignity for every recipient

Zakat is not just financial support — it is a means of strengthening hearts, families, and the entire community.
