Committees Parking committee
The Parking Committee helps make every visit to our masjid safe, orderly, and welcoming. From Jumu‘ah to major events, our volunteers work behind the scenes so that worshippers can focus on their prayers and families instead of traffic and congestion.
Mission and purpose
The Parking Committee exists to:
- Support worship: Ensure that community members can arrive and depart safely for daily prayers, Friday prayer, and special programs.
- Protect our neighbors: Minimize disruption to surrounding homes and businesses by managing traffic flow and parking etiquette.
- Maintain safety and accessibility: Prioritize clear emergency access, ADA spaces, and safe pedestrian paths.
- Reflect Islamic character: Demonstrate adab, patience, and respect in how we park, drive, and interact with one another.
Our work is an extension of the masjid’s mission: to create a space of mercy, order, and ihsan for all who attend.
Key responsibilities
The Parking Committee’s work includes:
Event planning and layout:
- Design parking and traffic flow plans for Jumu‘ah, Taraweeh, Eid, school programs, and large community events.
- Coordinate overflow parking and designated drop-off/pick-up zones.
On-site traffic management:
- Direct vehicles to available spaces and overflow areas.
- Manage entry and exit points to keep traffic moving smoothly.
- Maintain clear lanes for emergency vehicles and service access.
Safety and compliance:
- Protect fire lanes, sidewalks, and entrances from being blocked.
- Safeguard accessible/ADA parking spaces for those who need them.
- Help ensure compliance with city ordinances and property agreements.
Communication and signage:
- Prepare signs, cones, barriers, and markings to guide traffic and pedestrians.
- Share parking guidelines with the community before major events.
- Provide friendly reminders on proper parking behavior and neighbor respect.
Role during Friday prayer (Jumu‘ah)
Friday prayer is one of the busiest times at the masjid, and the Parking Committee plays a central role in maintaining order.
Before Jumu‘ah:
- Prepare the lot: Set up cones, barriers, and signage to define lanes, entrances, exits, and no-parking zones.
- Coordinate with administration and security: Align on expected attendance, overflow needs, and any special considerations (weather, construction, etc.).
- Welcome early arrivals: Direct early worshippers to park in a way that maximizes space and keeps key areas clear.
During Jumu‘ah:
- Manage incoming traffic: Guide late arrivals to appropriate spaces or overflow areas without blocking existing parked cars.
- Protect walkways and entrances: Keep doors, sidewalks, and ramps clear for families, elders, and those with disabilities.
- Promote good manners: Encourage drivers to be patient, follow instructions, and avoid double-parking or blocking other vehicles.
After Jumu‘ah:
- Orderly exit: Help cars exit safely and steadily to prevent dangerous bottlenecks and conflicts at driveways and intersections.
- Debrief and adjust: Note recurring issues (such as illegal parking or neighborhood complaints) and adjust the plan for future Fridays.
Through this effort, the Committee helps protect the sanctity of Jumu‘ah by reducing stress, confusion, and frustration in the parking areas.
Role in major events and special programs
Large gatherings add joy and energy to our masjid—but they also add unique parking challenges. The Parking Committee supports:
How the community can help
Every worshipper and visitor plays a part in making parking safe and smooth. You can support the Parking Committee by:
- Arriving early: Give yourself extra time for Jumu‘ah and major events to avoid last-minute rushing.
- Following directions: Cooperate with volunteer instructions, cones, and signage—even if it means parking slightly farther away.
- Protecting neighbors: Do not block driveways, mailboxes, hydrants, or sidewalks; respect private property at all times.
- Parking considerately: Park within lines, avoid double-parking, and leave room for others to maneuver.
- Putting safety first: Drive slowly, watch carefully for children and elders, and yield to pedestrians.
Small acts of consideration turn the parking lot into a place of reward, not stress.
